Spring 2020: What is trending?

Spring 2020: What is trending?

2020 has been a wild ride. This period of forced introspection saw us spend a lot of time in our homes and surely incited a few bouts of interior decorating mania. The world of interior design is fickle and ever-changing. Here are our top picks for the coming year.

HOUSEPLANTS AND BIOPHILIC DESIGN

Think timber and rustic aesthetics. The colours of the desert: warm earthy tones like sepia, terracotta and burnished orange.

Light filled spaces: large windows strategically placed to passively harness the power of the sun.

Plants, plants, plants! Turn your home into a veritable jungle: the much-loved monstera varieties, umbrella trees, rubber trees, palms, ferns, and everything in between, and if you are a green thumb try your hand at bamboo or the infamous fiddle leaf fig.

At Habitare Headquarters, we like to layer our plants with a mix of different sized pots and baskets, plant stands, plant hangers and terrariums.

NATURAL FIBRES

This trend ties in seamlessly with the the biophilic concept. Think wicker, rattan, hand woven grasses, jute and linen to lend an organic, bohemian feel to a space.

We have a great selection of woven seagrass baskets, jute rugs and table linen available in our store.

IN WITH THE OLD AND...  IN WITH THE NEW?

Eclecticism: Forget about "perfectionism", the soulless, institutional aesthetic that has dominated our interiors for the last decade. Mix old, worn, or antique one of a kind pieces with contemporary elements to create a welcoming space that embodies and reflects your personal style. Don't be afraid to use colour!

Style tip: At Habitare Headquarters, we love an over-sized mirror and are currently obsessed with return of vintage wall tapestries.

FORGET ABOUT THE OVERSIZED HEADBOARD:

TREAT THE WHOLE WALL!

Bring the drama to your bedroom, and supersize the wow-factor of a tall headboard by making it into a feature wall. An amazing variety of sizes and textures of wall panels are available now, and they are so easy to install. The higher and wider the better!

Style tip: The panels do not have to be fabric, get creative and be inspired by timber, irregular geometric shapes, and even light, to create interest and turn the wall into a masterpiece.

BOLD COLOURS AND INTRICATE WALLPAPER

The feature wall has had its moment. But now, more is more. If you love that bold colour, commit to it and paint the whole room: walls, trims and ceiling and all. The elaborate wallpaper you find yourself lusting over and then talking yourself out of? Emblazon it across all four walls!

Style tip: Statement wallpaper is perfect for pimping your powder room.

2021 looms, and if you live in Australia like we do, the warmer weather approaches; the days are longer and sunnier and whisper of the promise of Summer. We feel inclined to reset: to open our windows, clean, de-clutter, and revitalize our interiors. We hope this post has inspired you to revitalize something in your home, and life.
